Meet Coach Migz
My name is Miguel Garza, but you can call me Coach Migz!
Growing up I had very poor eating habits and quickly found myself weighing 270 pounds at the age of 13. I was starting to show signs of diabetes and knew I had to make changes to my life. I began exercising and fell in love with it. I lost nearly 100 pounds after focusing on proper nutrition and exercise.
At the age of 17 I hurt myself at the gym and ended up with 3 herniated disc. Hearing doctors say I’d be lucky to walk again and shouldn’t expected anything more than that, crushed me and left me angry. I couldn’t accept the limitations they put on me. I worked hard to regain my strength and prove them wrong. Since that point fitness has been a part of my life.
I went to Saint Mary's College of California on an academic scholarship and earned my Bachelors in Biochemistry and a Minor in Psychology. Being a doctor was all I wanted, until my last semester when I decided this wasn’t for me. I knew I’d regret it if I just dropped out so I finished and earned my degree and decided to pursue my passion and change my career path towards personal training.
I’ve now been a personal trainer for the past 3 years and assisted clients ranging from a 90 year stroke victim who lost function of her left limbs to 14 year children wanting to be better prepared for their sport. Seeing people overcome their limitations and achieving their goals is the most rewarding experience I’ve ever been a part of. I can genuinely say I’m proud of what I do and I’m blessed to get the opportunity to work with so many great people.
